Summer Camp

Today at summer camp...(because there's nothing else that's remotely interesting in my life except camp and bass lessons, and don't get me started on bass lessons...)

This guy was reading a book to all of the little campers in my group: The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle.  Perhaps you've heard of it.  This guy hasn't.  You could tell by looking at him the entire time that he was in pain.  He even goes as far to say that he "hates books that aren't educational" while he's in the middle of turning pages.

The story's about this ladybug who goes around trying to pick a fight with an assortment of animals.  How in the world a ladybug of all things manages to speak to every animal in the world in under 12 hours remains a mystery to me...And then it eats all of the aphids and everyone is happy including the leaf which says "thank you" (also a mystery...'talking leaves', who knew?)  But anyway, the best part of the story was at the end.  The guy reading the book flips the book over to the back cover and shows all of the little children a picture of the author, Eric Carle.

"And this, children, is a picture of the crazy SOB who wrote this book." says the guy, maintaining a straight face.  Luckily, his remark goes over all of the childrens' heads, but me and a 12 year old are literally on the floor laughing for the next several minutes.

I live for moments like this.
